Life Update in the ATL

Hey again, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on my little corner of the web but I’m back. I want to share some exciting things that have happened in the past couple of months. So without further a do, here we go.

First up, I graduated! In December I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in advertising and public relations. I can’t thank the Ad/PR program at UCF enough for the faculty, courses and organizations that helped me fall more in love with media and communications. If you’d like to see some of the work I was able to accomplish while at UCF head to my Let’s Work Together tab to check out my portfolio.

Now comes the good stuff. It seemed like the adult decisions just kept on rolling in quickly after graduation. Because of my type A personality (type 1 on the Enneagram), I started job hunting and planning my post grad life from the start of the fall semester. I went on a few job interviews, pictured my dream job at one of these companies, but I never could’ve guessed where I’d end up. When they say it’s all about who you know, they aren’t kidding. I asked all of my friends and family if they had connection in the media industry. Low and behold we had a match! I knew this was an opportunity I had to jump on.

Atlanta, is nothing new to me, we visited without fail every year on Easter weekend for Big South, a national club volleyball tournament, for about 10 years, then following that my mom lived in the Atlanta area for around three years. What was new to me was looking at Atlanta with fresh eyes and with a potential resident viewpoint. We drove up for a weekend to interview and check out Buckhead. Surprise here, I loved it. For the next week I put all my eggs in one basket and started a checklist of things I would need to accomplish to make this happen. I am not a risk taker, I repeat I always have a plan and take the safe route. However, this time felt different, this time I felt there needed to be a little risk involved to achieve this lofty goal of working for a major media corporation.

Just over a week ago I took a gigantic leap and moved to Atlanta, Georgia after being offered a job to work for a dream company, Discovery Inc. I never would’ve thought to check out major media companies and I definitely never thought to check out the Ad Sales departments. I loved and I mean LOVED my media planning class but never saw myself taking that path, but here I am, happily, one week in as an Ad Sales assistant for the Discovery Channel bundle. I am absolutely in love with my job, team, apartment and new city. As I mentioned earlier I am totally the person to completely unpack all in one weekend and I’m so proud of all the hard work my mom and her boyfriend helped me accomplish to make Atlanta my home.

To wrap up, it seemed fitting that the four podcasts I decided to listen to on the road trip to Georgia were from Girls Night by Stephanie May Wilson were all around budgeting, making your house a home, shopping and staying on track for your goals. These were all things racing through my mind of how to balance and adjust with moving into my own apartment, in a new city, and a new job. With all the new challenges comes new adventures that I am so ready to take on. 2019 is already looking to be the best yet and I can’t wait to take you guys a long with me. So here I am, a Florida girl, a former Mizzou Tiger, a UCF Knight Alumni, and a forever bull dawg fan taking on Atlanta and ready to conquer 2019.

XO,

Ashley
